The Abrahamic Promises
A. PHYSICAL PHASE - "I will make of thee a great nation."
1. Many descendants[ a great people ] ( Gen. 15:1-5 ).
2. Certain lands, as a home territory( Gen. 15:18-21 ).
B. SPIRITUAL PHASE - "In thee [thy seed, Gen. 22:18]all nations of the earth
blessed"( Gen. 26:4; 28:14 ).
C. THE SPIRITUAL BLESSING IS IN CHRIST( Gal. 3:8; 13-16; Acts 3:25 ).
A. FULFILLMENT:
1. Joshua( Joshua 21:43-45 ).
2. Solomon( 1 Kings 4:21-24; 2 Chron 9:26; Neh. 9:7-8 ).
B. CONDITIONAL NATURE OF THE PHYSICAL PROMISE:
1. Spoken to Joshua( Joshua 23:14-16 ).
2. Solomon, and conditions( 1 Chron. 28:6-8, "if" vs. 7, "that" vs. 8 ).
C. ISRAEL'S SINS, AND THE RESULTS:
1. Compromise with the enemy( Judges 1:21; cf. Josh. 23:11-13 ).
2. Israel "broke the covenant" with God( Judges 2:1-4 ).
3. Lesson of the "Potter's Vessel"( Jer. 19 ).
A. BY WHOM JEWISH REMNANT REDEEMED( Isa. 1:9; 4:2-4; 11:10 ).
B. BY WHOM GENTILES ALSO REDEEMED( 49:5-6; 56:6-8; 62:2; 65:18f. )
A. GOD CAST THEM NOT OFF, A REMNANT LEFT( vs. 1-5 ).
B. A REMNANT ACCORDING TO GRACE( vs. 5-6 ).
1. What is grace?
2. The remnant of Israel not in Israel, but of the elect( vs. 7 ).
3. Israel was hardened( vs. 7-10 ).
C. WHAT DID THE HARDENING ACCOMPLISH?( vs. 11-16 ).
D. WARNING TO THE BENEFICIARIES, THE GENTILES( vs. 17-21 ).
1. No cause for the Gentiles to glory( vs. 17-18 ).
2. Why were the Jews cut off?( vs. 19-20 ). Unbelief!
3. The Gentiles can be cut off for the same reason( vs. 21 ).
E. GRACE IS CONDITIONAL FOR JEW AND GENTILE ( vs. 22 ).
F. GRACE CAN BE HAD AGAIN BY THE JEW( vs. 23-24 ).
A. GOD HAS MADE WONDERFUL PROMISES TO US( Gen. 12:3 )..
B. THOSE PROMISES ARE CONDITIONAL.
