TEXT:† Isa. 30:1-17

INTRODUCTION:

A.† WRITTEN BETWEEN 740 AND 723 BC, JUST BEFORE ISRAELíS FALL IN 722 BC.

B.† A WARNING OF PUNISHMENT TO GODíS REBELLIOUS CHILDREN IN JUDAH.

C.† HOSEA AND JEREMIAH ALSO ADDRESSED THEIR SIN (Hos. 10:1-4;† Jer. 8:8-13).

D.† IS IT POSSIBLE FOR US AS INDIVIDUALS TO SHARE THEIR FATE?

I.††††† WHY WAS JUDAH CUT OFF?

A.† THEY DESERTED GOD WHOM THEY ONCE CONSULTED (Judges 20:18, 23, 27-28).

††††††††† 1.† They refused the counsel of God (Isa. 30:1).

††††††††† 2.† They trusted the shadow of Egypt instead (Isa. 30:2-3).

B.† THEY HAD BEEN LED TO DISTRUST GOD Ė LITTLE FAITH.

††††††††† 1.† David learned to trust God (Psalm 57:1-3).

††††††††† 2.† Jer. 17:5-7;† Isa. 31:1-3.

C.† THEY WERE MATERIALISTIC.

††††††††† 1.† They were impressed by the materialistic wealth of Egypt (Isa. 30:5-7).

††††††††† 2.† What they could see more impressive than Godís promise (Rom. 8:31;† 2 Cor. 5:7).

††††††††† 3.† Concerned with numbers and physical strength (Isa. 30:1-3).

D.† THEY WANTED FALSE PROPHETS TO CERTIFY THEIR ERRORS (Isa. 30:9-10).

††††††††† 1.† ďI know what the Bible says, but ÖĒ (Isa. 30:11-13).† Tell God to get out of our way.

††††††††† 2.† Same tune today (2 Tim. 4:1-4).

††††††††† 3.† Will we despise the light of Godís word? (John 3:19-20;† Jer. 5:30-31).

E.† THEIR SIN LED TO DESTRUCTION.

††††††††† 1.† Isa. 30:3;† Prov. 14:34.

††††††††† 2.† Some see no danger in the one who teaches error (2 Pet. 2:1-3).

††††††††† 3.† Their sin leads to the destruction of others (1 Cor. 5:6-8).

††††††††† 4.† How much error can we fellowship? (Eph. 5:11;† Rom. 16:17-18).

II.†††† LESSONS FOR US.

A.† MANíS WISDOM CANNOT SAVE US (1 Cor. 1:21; †Jer. 10:23).

B.† GOD REQUIRES OBEDIENCE AND RESPECT FROM HIS CHILDREN (Rom. 2:4-8).

††††††††† 1† Our lives must be lived in submission to his will (1 John 1:6-7).

††††††††† 2.† Without obedience, we are none of his (1 John 2:3-5;† 5:3;† Matt. 7:21).

C.† GODíS CHILDREN CAN FALL (Gal. 5:4;† 2 Tim. 2:16-17).

CONCLUSION:

A.† WE MUST LEARN TO TRUST GOD AND NOT HUMAN STRENGTH OR WISDOM.

B.† THAT MEANS DOING WHAT HE SAYS IN THE BIBLE.
