TEXT:  Matt. 17:1-8

Introduction:

A.      Review the transfiguration.

B.      It is good to be here today - why?

I.      It is an opportunity to worship God.

A.      God seeks WORSHIPPERS( John. 4:23 )

B.      BUT OF A DISTINCT CHARACTER(John. 4:23-24;  Ex. 20:1-5 ).

C.      GOD IS WORTHY OF OUR WORSHIP( Rev. 4:11 )

D.      WORSHIP IS AN OCCASION OF PLEASURE( Psa. 122:1 ).

F.      IN WORSHIP WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR US IN REDEMPTION IS

          REMEMBERED( 1 Cor. 11: 26;  Heb. 10:19-25 ).

II.     It affords OPPORTUNITY FOR fellowship.

A.      Christians continued in fellowship( Acts 2: 42 ).

B.      THE CHURCH IS GOD'S FAMILY( 1 Tim. 3: 15 ).

C.      Such fellowship helps by:

          1.       Increasing love( 1 Cor. 13: 1-7 ).

          2.       Demonstrating common interest( 1 Cor. 1: 10;  Phil. 1:27;  Heb. 10:24-25).

          3.       Showing concern( Gal. 6:1-2;  Heb. 3:12-13 ).

D.      Christians miss something when absent.

III.    It is an opportunity to teach God's word.

A.      The gospel must be taught( Rom. 1:16; John.6:44-45; Matt.28:19,20 ).

B.      The church is to support the truth( 1 Tim. 3:15 ).

C.      MUCH TEACHING WAS DONE IN THE ASSEMBLIES ( Acts 11:26 ).

Conclusion:

A.      PETER, JAMES AND JOHN WERE HIGH ON THE MOUNTAIN WITH JESUS.

          1.       A place of instruction.

          2.       A place where faith and hope were increased.

B.      WORSHIP IS WHERE THE TRANSFORMED JESUS IS PUT BEFORE US.

C.      IT IS GOOD FOR US TO BE HERE.
