TEXT:  John 2:1-11

INTRODUCTION:

A.  FIRST MIRACLE OF JESUS.

          1.  His mother’s idea and his reply to her.

          2.  Her sage advice to the servants.

                                        “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”    

B.  WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT WOULD MAKE FOR THE WORLD TO DO AS SHE SAID!

C.  DO YOU SEE THE N T’s TEACHING AS SOMETHING YOU MUST DO?

D.  WHAT WILL DOING WHAT HE SAYS CAUSE US TO DO?

I.  WE WILL WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH (John 4:23-24).

A.  SOME WORSHIP THE WRONG THING (Acts 17:22-23;  Matt. 4:10).

B.  JESUS HELPS US WITH OUR UNDERSTANDING (Matt. 15:7-9).

          1.  In “spirit” – Our heart (inner man) must be in it.  Where is your mind right now.

          2.  In “truth” – According to the pattern (2 Tim. 1:13;  Col. 3:17).

II.  WE WILL LET OUR LIGHT SHINE (Matt. 5:16).

A.  HE TALKING ABOUT SETTING AN EXAMPLE (Matt. 5:13-16;  Titus 2:7).

B.  OUR EXAMPLE REFLECT THE GLORY OF GOD (1 Pet. 2:9, 11-12).

C.  Phil. 2:14-16.  LIGHTS IN A DARK WORLD.

III.  WE WILL NOT SIN AGAINST OUR BROTHER (Matt. 5:21-25).

A.  WE WILL DO ALL THINGS OUT OF LOVE (1 Cor. 16:14;  1 Pet. 1:22).

B.  LOVE WILL GOVERN OUR RELATIONSHIP (Rom. 14:10;  Matt. 7:12).

C.  REVENGE OR FORGIVENESS? (Matt. 18:15;  Col. 3:12-14).

D.  TO DO LESS IS TO SIN AGAINST YOUR BROTHER.

IV.  WE WILL PUT THE KINGDOM FIRST (Matt. 6:33).

A.  WE WILL NOT STRIVE TO PLEASE MEN.

          1.  The hypocrisy of the Jews (Matt. 6:1-5;  Matt. 23:5).

          2.  The tyranny of error (Gal. 1:10).

B.  WE WILL LAY OUR TREASURES UP IN HEAVEN.

          1.  If we put the kingdom first, where will our treasure be (Matt. 6:19-21).

          2.  We are often confused about the true measure of success and security (Luke 12:15).

          3.  There are happy rich people and happy poor people (Phil. 4:11;  1 Tim. 6:6).

          4.  It is not a sin to be rich (1 Tim. 6:17-19).

          5.  But be careful – the desire for wealth leads to all kinds of evil (1 Tim. 6:9-10).

V.  WE WILL JUDGE RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT (John 7:24).

A.  WE WILL DIVEST OF SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS (Matt. 7:1-5;  Luke 18:9-14).

B.  PRACTICE THE GOLDEN RULE (Matt. 7:12).

C.  WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT OUR BROTHER’S SIN? (Gal. 6:1;  James 5:19-20).

D.  WHAT IF HE REPENTS?  (Luke 17:3-5).

          1.  Don’t say “Oh, he don’t mean it.”

          2.  What should be our goal (Jude 22-23).

          3.  Unless the sin is against me? (Matt. 18:15).

VI.  WE WILL OBEY THE GOSPEL PLAN OF SALVATION (Heb. 5:8-9).

A.  HEAR THE GOSPEL (Rom. 10:17).

B.  BELIEVE (Mark 16:16).

C.  REPENT (Acts 17:30).

D.  BE BAPTIZED (Acts 2:38).

E.  CONTINUE IN HIS WORD (John 8:31).

CONCLUSION:  ARE YOU READY TO DO WHATSOEVER HE SAITH…?
