The Gospel Paul Preached
A. TWO DANGEROUS EXTREMES IN REGARD TO THE GOSPEL PAUL PREACHED.
1. Red letter editions show disregard for teaching of the apostles and other inspired men.
“I want to hear it in Jesus’ own words.”
2. There is a tendancy to belittle the authority and apostleship of Paul.
a. Why refuse Paul? Why accuse him of fanaticism?
b. Too doctrinal and condemning, especially of some of the more popular sins.
B. ARE THE APOSTLES WORDS AS IMPORTANT AS JESUS WORDS?
1. Matt. 10:19-20; John 16:12-15; Matt. 28:19-20.
Therefore: Luke 10:16; Matt. 10:40.
2. But what about Paul? He was not one of the Twelve.
a. His conversion (Acts 26:9-20).
b. It’s implications (Gal. 1:15-16; 1 Cor. 14:37; 1 Thess. 2:13; 2 Cor. 11:5).
c. We cannot reject Paul and the other apostles without rejecting Jesus (Jude 17).
C. WHY PREACH THE GOSPEL PAUL PREACHED?
A. IT IS GOD’S POWER TO SAVE (Rom. 1:16).
1. Power = dunimis. Dynamite, dynamo. (James 1:21).
2. Called to salvation by it (2 Thess. 2:13-14).
3. 1 Cor. 15:1-2; Mark 16:15-17.
B. IT IS THE POWER TO TRANSFORM US.
1. It redirects our perspective and purpose (Phil. 1:27; Eccl. 12:13-14).
2. It teaches us how to live and not to live (Titus 2:11-12).
3. It purges the ugly and gross (1 Cor. 6:9-11; Col. 3:5-9).
4. It restores us to our original and intended design (Col. 3:9-10; 2 Pet. 1:4).
5. Our lives will be filled with joy and hope (Acts 8:39; Phil. 4:4-7).
C. IT IS GOD’S WORD (Gal. 1:11-12; Eph. 3:3-5).
D. PREACHING PAUL’S GOSPEL WILL UNITE US.
1. The same gospel Peter and the other apostles preached (2 Pet. 3:15-16; 1 Cor. 1:13).
2. Who divides brethren? (1 Cor. 4:7, 6).
E. I AM AFRAID TO PREACH ANYTHING ELSE (Gal. 1:8-9).
1. anathema = doomed to destruction.
2. We must not change God’s word (Deut. 4:2; Prov. 30:6; 2 John 9; Rev. 22:18-19).
A. GOSPEL – “GOOD NEWS, GLAD TIDINGS.” euaggelion; a good message, i.e. the gospel.
(Rom. 10:15).
B. 1 Cor. 15:1-4. THE DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS.
C. HOW IS THE DEATH OF JESUS GOOD NEWS?
1. All of us have sinned (Rom. 3:23).
2. Sin has a consequence (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:1).
3. Jesus’ death answers justice in the matter of punishment (John 3:16; Rom. 5:8).
4. Punishment is sure for those who don’t obey (2 Thess. 1:7-9).
5. How do we obey the gospel?
a. By obeying that form of doctrine (Rom. 6:17-18).
b. How do we obey the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (Rom. 6:3-4).
A. THIS IS THE GOSPEL PAUL PREACHED.
B. IF HE WERE HERE TODAY, WOULD HE CHANGE IT ANY?
C. HAVE YOU OBEYED IT?
