“O Man of God”

TEXT1 Tim. 6:11-21

INTRODUCTION:

A.      THE EXPRESSION NOT A TITLE OR OFFICE – ADMONITIONS TO ALL OF US.

B.      HOW IS THE MAN OF GOD TO LIVE?

I.      TIMOTHY IS TO FLEE CERTAIN THINGSWHAT ARE THEY?

A.      LUST FOR MATERIAL GAIN AND WHAT IT CAUSES( 1 Tim. 6:9-10 ).

B.      HE IS TO LAY UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN( 1 Tim. 6:17-19 ).

II.     HE IS TO FOLLOW THESE THINGS.

A.      RIGHTEOUSNESSdikaiosune, “is the character or quality of being right or just,

          whatever ha been appointed by to be acknowledged and obeyed by man;  the sum

          requirements of God( Matt. 6:33 ).”  JESUS SAID TO SEEK IT FIRST.

B.      GODLINESSeusebeia, “denotes that piety which, characterized by a Godward attitude,

          does that which is well-pleasing to Him.”

          Demeanor and manner of life( 2 Pet. 1:6 ).  Godliness is granted us by the example of

          Jesus( 2 Pet. 1:2;  John 1:14;  1 Pet. 2:21 ).

C.      FAITH( Heb. 11:6 ).

          1.       Belief( Mark 16:16;  John 8:24 ).

          2.       Trust( 2 Tim. 1:12;  2:11-13 ).

          3.       The source of faith( Rom. 10:17 ).

D.      LOVEagape.

          1.       Love of God( 1 John 5:3;  2 John 6 ).

          2.       Love of the brethren( 1 Cor. 13:1-3;  1 Pet. 1:22 ).

E.      PATIENCE – ENDURANCE.

          1.       Because our course is hard( 2 Tim. 2:3 ).

          2.       We have a hero( Heb. 12:1-2 ).

          3.       It is not in vain( 1 Cor. 15:58 ).

F.      MEEKNESSprautes( Matt. 26:53;  Luke 23:34 ).

III.    HE IS TO FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF THE FAITH.

A.      OUR LIFE IS A STRUGGLE – WE NEED PATIENCE, as mentioned before.

          1.       Fight to endure persecutions( 2 Tim. 3:12 ).

          2.       Fight to escaped temptations( 1 Pet. 5:8 ).

          3.       Fight for the truth( Jude 3;  2 Tim. 4:2 ).

B.      THE END OF THAT FIGHT IS ETERNAL LIFE( vs. 19 ).

          1.       We are called to that life( 2 Tim. 2:14 ).

          2.       Our confession of Christ is to that end( vs. 12 ).

          3.       Jesus confessed before Pilate.

IV.   FINALLY, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS.

A.      JOSHUA WAS NOT TO TURN TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT( Josh. 1:7 ).

B.      FAITHFUL TO THE END( Heb. 3:14 ).

CONCLUSION:

A.      HAVE YOU CONFESSED CHRIST IN WORD AND DEED?

B.      HAVE YOU BEEN FAITHFUL?
