The Danger Of Apostasy

TEXT:  Heb. 10:26-27

INTRODUCTION:

A.      MANY BELIEVE "ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED."

          1.       Expressed "You can't fall from grace."

          2.       Many who know better live like they can't fall.

B.      CAN WE FALL FROM GRACE?

I.      WHAT DO WE MEAN "GRACE?"

A.      charis, "GOOD-WILL, LOVING KINDNESS, FAVOR."  UNMERITED.

B.      GOD'S PROVISION FOR REDEMPTION IS A GRACE( Rom. 3:24-25; 5:1-2 )

C.      GOD'S GRACE FURTHER PROVIDES FOR US THAT WE MIGHT

          CONTINUE IN HIS GRACE( 1 Cor. 10:13;  1 John 2:1-2;  Titus 2:11-12 ).

D.      TO CONTINUE IN HIS GRACE WE MUST ABIDE IN HIS WORD( John 8:31 )

E.      WHEN MAN CEASES TO WALK IN THE LIGHT, HE CEASES TO BE IN

          HARMONY WITH GOD AND IS NO LONGER IN FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM

          ( 1 John 1:6-7 ).

F.      THE QUESTION:  NOT, "WILL A CHRISTIAN FALL FROM GRACE?"

 BUT

"CAN A CHRISTIAN SIN SO AS TO BE LOST?"

II.     THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT CHILDREN OF GOD CAN SIN

        AND BE LOST.

A.      ISRAEL, THE NATION( Deut. 14:1 - 1 Cor. 10:1-12 ).

B.      John 15:1-6. VINES AND BRANCHES CUT OFF IF FRUITLESS.

C.      Rom. 11:17-22. WE MAY BE CUT OFF!

D.      OUR NAMES MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE BOOK OF LIFE

                             ( Luke 10:20; Ex. 32:23;  Rev. 3:5 ).

E.      Gal. 5:4.  "YE ARE FALLEN FROM GRACE."

F.      THOSE LEAVING THEIR FIRST LOVE( Rev. 2:4-5; 7 ).

G.      WILL FAITH SAVE?( Rom. 5:1-2 ).  WHAT IF WE RENOUNCE OUR FAITH?

          ( 1 Tim. 4:1;  1:18-19;  6:10;  5:8;  2 Tim. 2:18 ).

H.      Heb. 6:4-8;  10:26-29;  2 Pet. 2:20-22.

III.    WHAT IF WE FALL?

A.      REPENT AND PRAY( Acts 8:22 ).

B.      CONFESS SINS TO GOD & COME OUT OF THE DARK( 1 John 1:9, 6-7 ).

C.      GOD PROVIDES( 1 John 2:1-2 ).

IV.   WHAT ABOUT ONE WHO IS OUTSIDE CHRIST?

A.      GOD WANTS ALL TO BE SAVE( 1 Tim. 2:3-4 ).

B.      JESUS CALLS ALL( Mat. 11:28f. ).

C.      Acts 2:38.

CONCLUSION:

A.      HAVE YOU BEEN BAPTIZED?

B.      HAVE YOU FALLEN FROM GRACE?
