The Promises of God

TEXT:  2 Pet. 1:4

INTRODUCTION:

A.      OUR FAITH IS BUILT ON GOD'S PROMISES.

B.      WE NEED TO BE ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN THEM.

I.      THE CHARACTER OF THOSE PROMISES.

A.      THE ARE "EXCEEDING GREAT AND PRECIOUS"( 1 John 2:25 ).

C.      THE LORD ISN'T SLACK CONCERNING PROMISES( 2 Pet.3:9; Heb.10:23 ).

          1.       Romans 15:4.  Old Testament example( Josh. 21:43-45 )

          2.       God never lies( Num. 23:19;  Heb. 6:17-18 )

III.    THERE ARE THINGS GOD HAS NOT PROMISED.

A.      TO ACCEPT EXCUSES( Luke 14:16-24 ).

B.      ANOTHER DAY TO LIVE( Jas. 4: 13-14 ).

C.      TO SAVE MEN OUT OF THE CHURCH( Eph. 5:23; Acts 2:47).

D.      ANOTHER CHANCE AFTER DEATH(  2 Cor. 5:10;  6:2 ).

E.      TO HEAR A SINNER'S PRAYER( Psa. 66:18;  Prov. 28:9 ).

F.      A LIFE FREE FROM HARDSHIPS( 2 Tim. 3:12;  James 1:2-4 ).

IV.   UNCONDITIONAL PROMISES.

A.      NO MORE FLOOD ON THE EARTH( Gen. 9:12-17 ).

B.      DEATH( Heb. 9:27 ).

C.      DESTRUCTION OF THE WORLD( 2 Pet. 3:10 ).

D.      JUDGMENT( Acts 17:30-31 ).

V.    CONDITIONAL PROMISES OF GOD.

A.      ALL THINGS ADDED( Matt. 6:33 ).

B.      ALL THINGS WORK FOR GOOD( Rom. 8:28 ).

C.      FORGIVENESS OF ALIEN'S SINS( Mark. 16:16; Acts 2:38 ).

D.      FORGIVENESS FOR THE ERRING CHRISTIAN( Acts 8:22; Jas. 5:16 ).

CONCLUSION:

A.      FAITH IS TRUST( Heb. 11:6 ).

B.      DO WE TRUST ENOUGH TO OBEY?
