The weapons of our warfare are mighty, but they are not typical. Their purpose is to bring in to captivity the thoughts and imaginations of men. It was the "sword of the Spirit," the Word of God, that was used to accomplish this. It is powerful to convert the outsider and settle disputes of doctrine among brethren, so making peace.
1 Corinthians deals with division on both a personal level and doctrinal level. The sword is used to reconcile. 2 Corinthians and Galatians are written to answer the issue of that day, circumcision.
